AWARD WINNING CIDER

Hitchcox Cider - producing award winning ciders for 2024

We're proud to say that every drop of Hitchcox Cider is the real deal!

All of our ciders are made from hand selected apples, grown on our working farm & from established local orchards, some have been established for over 50 years!

We strive to keep alive the notion that you can still successfully create and maintain an agriculturally based business. We grow apples. We also follow a natural method of winemaking (yes, cider is wine—same exact fermentation process, different fruit), which complements the low impact/sustainable practices we employ in the orchard. With some help from mother nature, we grow, press, and prepare small-batch ciders with no
artificial additives or flavourings.

We are experienced cider makers at Hitchcox Cider, we use traditional pressing methods using a 1971 cloth press to extract the best from our produce. Whilst this is labour and time intensive, it is a pace we keep with nature, to the salvaged walls of our cidery. We embed this philosophy and the tried-and-true methods of time before us to create pure, fresh, genuine cider.

We have experienced growth through the consistency of good quality products, events, sustainability and positive word of mouth, enabling us to grow in reputation and now proud to be Oxford’s longest-running cider company. By allowing the apples to speak for themselves, their authentic, unique characteristics shine through for you to enjoy.

let me introduce...

Toby Hitchcox

Hitchcox Cider was founded by Toby Hitchcox an impressive character and an impressive beard with a cider repertoire that only a well travelled man with a genuine passion that he turned into an award winning business.

It all started with £60 in his pocket, a backpack and a one-way ticket to New Zealand – this is where the love story with cider began!

“I will never forget fruit picking on a farm in New Zealand, near Nelson, Motueka, the sun beaming on me with a subtle breeze. We were so remote that all I could hear were the whispers of other pickers around me … being amongst the orchards is still the only place my senses are on overload and my passion for apple and pear orchards becomes ignited, its when you know that you’re doing what you were born to do”

The time came to return to England, but the New Zealand experience never left him. He eventually set up Orchard Cottage Farm and started to plan out the business from his boyhood home in Oxfordshire.

Toby planted 400 trees on his farm and submersed himself in researching the art and craft of cider making. With barrels of enthusiasm, hard work and dedication Hitchcox Cider was born!

Toby had a dream; he literally planted a seed to grow a business.

What our customers say?

I just had to drop a note to say how much we enjoyed our visit yesterday. We set out just expecting to buy some traditional cider and never expected such a welcome or so much education on your ciders and processes. I never cease to be impressed by people who are passionate about their work and products. We had a thoroughly pleasant time and will definitely visit again as well as spread the word about your great ciders.

The Black Panther - arguably the most idyllic and perfect cider I’ve tasted. Complex nose and flavour yet crisp with great clarity. Not heavy like a cloudy cider yet warming without unpleasant acidity that meant the whole bottle went down upsettingly fast. How dare you let me only buy a single bottle!! Single variety, whiskey barrel aged is a work of art and I must have more or be on your waiting list for next year’s pressings.
