Apple & Embers Shindig

19 September 2026 from 6pm to midnight

After the amazing success of 2025’s Big Cider Shindig, we thought it would be rude not to do it all over again. And so, on 19 September, Apple & Embers returned to the orchard for an evening celebrating the start of autumn and one of our favourite times of year here at Hitchcox.

As summer gave way to autumn and the orchard headed into harvest, we gathered for an evening of live music, proper food, cider (of course, other drinks were available. We are not monsters!) and fires burning as the light faded.

There was plenty going on, but equally plenty of opportunity to grab a drink from the bar, find a spot and settle in for the evening.

There was music. There was dancing. Glasses were raised to the harvest. And for those who decided that heading home afterwards sounded like far too much effort, there was free camping in the orchard too.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, played, danced, ate, drank, camped and helped make Apple & Embers such a brilliant way to welcome autumn into the orchard.

We got our dancing shoes on…

The Mechanics brought exactly the kind of energy that made standing politely at the back increasingly difficult. The brilliantly lively roaming band moved through the crowd with acoustic instruments, rich harmonies and plenty of personality, putting their own folk-inspired spin on rock, pop and indie favourites. From Mumford & Sons and George Ezra to The Killers and Van Morrison, they soon had the orchard joining in.

Oxfordshire singer-songwriter Andy Hoger brought a more laid-back soundtrack to the evening, blending his own music with well-loved classics. It was the sort of set that went particularly well with a cider in hand, good company and nowhere else to be.

And The So & So’s served up a lively mix of blues, rock, country, reggae and whatever else they fancied throwing into the pot. Brilliant musicians, plenty of feel-good energy and exactly the right amount of unpredictability — pretty much perfect for an evening at Hitchcox.
